Pardoner's Tale of Irony

In the Pardoner’s Tale, a story is told of three rioters who sharing their thoughts to the listening peoples whether they care to or not.  The pardoner spins the tale of these three as they are in their unrestrained revelry boasting of their bravery to face Death if he comes a calling.  They go to seek out Death and meet an elderly gentleman on the way and make rude comments to him like his age is so that shouldn’t he be almost dead, but the gentleman lets them know that on God will decide his time to die.  He does share that he just left Death under a tree in the grove and that they could seek Death there.  The three meet with Death in some very different situations.
As our three go forth to seek Death, they find a great fortune under the tree where Death should be staying.  This is more golden florins than these three have ever seen.  Eight bushels of gold and they want to make sure no one gets their find.  They no longer seek Death.  They have greed.  The three make a plan to send the youngest rioter back to get supply to carry the gold back so that they can be rich.  They will split the bounty three ways.  But on the departure of the younger rioter, the other two plot to kill him and keep the bounty and split it in half.  They plan the murder and as the young rioter returns, he is killed by the two men.
In irony, earlier as the young rioter as he is going to town feels the greed in him that he could get rid of the fellows and have the gold to himself.  He visits the apothecary to say that he needs a poison to help him get rid of these rats and a polecat too so he would need it strong.  He then takes the poison and puts it in wine bottles to take back to the two rioters waiting with the gold.  He would present the bottles of wine to celebrate their good fortune and thus the two would die of the poison.  But upon his return, he is attacked by the two others and killed, but in their revelry and celebration drink of the wine of the young rioter killing each of them.  Death has visited them all.

The Pardoner’s Tale is one of death on many aspects.  One of famine, sickness, cruelty and then of actions of greed that death comes to many people in many ways.  Those who live to be old and those who live reckless and greedy may meet Death in a much earlier date.  These three lived loud and  did not really care but for themselves and then just their own personal self.  The irony may be that they had it all with the three of them but as they saw the gold they became more self-centered and then they could have all been rich, but being selfish they all met who they were seeking, Death.

Higgins' Way of Treating Everyone Equally

Hey Ya’ll!   Now doesn’t that tell you something.  Southern.  “Hello there” would be more proper or just “Hello” or “Greetings”.  In Pygmalion, Higgins examined each person’s dialect and even spoke of their environment and social standing.  He treats each person the same by his knowledge and intellect which set him up to be a little on the cynical side.  The less educated or lower social classes are portrayed to have a lower self esteem.  Each will be examined further from the Pygmalion point of view.
I can personal relate to Higgins sometimes. Higgins is a intelligent person. He seems to be a very educated and well studied person.  He seems to talk for the sake of talking. Like Higgins, I also talk without understanding how I speak.  I can say something, but I never thought about the other persons feelings.  He has so much information whether useful or not to have in his mind set to change or transform a person for there own good.  He feels that his knowledge is useful to those less educated or from a different region to speak properly or more pronounced to pass themselves off as something else or someone else.  It is almost a game or adventure to see if he is successful.  He has no real feelings involved or compassion.  It seems as though he has only words in his life.  Life seems to pass him by as his own mother seems to acknowledge in her allowance to see her on or at certain times.  This too will tell you that the redundancy of his speeches or conversation can only be tolerated for limited times by his own mother.  My mother also hates when I speak at times, because I speak about something inappropriate with saying a sorry or anything. I hear myself one way, they hear another.
Another theme that emerges is lower social morality.  Liza comes to ask Higgins for lessons after he analyzes her and seems to belittle her because of her poor language.  She wants to be more than a flower girl and move up to actually work in a flower shop or store to sell better goods.  She offers to pay for his services to show she is a proud woman but soon her father comes on the scene to seem to lower her back to the low, lower class.  Mr. Doolittle seems to “do little”  He seems to scam for his money.  He is not a proud man to provide for his family.  He practically sells Liza for $5.  Liza seems to want to improve her life but her father seems content to be as he is until some of the properness actually gets him married.  He is actually frightened by this change.
In the end everyone seems to be surprised at their change and changes.  Higgins still is going to be Higgins but can accept that he is attracted to Liza.  His mother is happy that Higgins is someone else’s problem and that Liza is a strong person from humble lowly upbringing to handle the well educated, unemotional, highly intolerable Mr. Higgins.

Goals

Goals are a very important tool to have, when you want to stay set on something in life. If you want to do something in the future then set a goal and try to reach it. After my senior year, I will move on to college then full time job. Goals will maybe change over time, but at least having them will put you closer to obtaining them.
Senior year will be the easiest and most important because it is the stepping stone into the future. This is one major milestone that at our age it is a major accomplishment to know that we did it.  We'll make it through the first education hurtle. The next is up to you but the world doesn't want, what you want. It wants, what you need.
College education is a must to get somewhere in the corporate world. Just having a high school education shows some effort but putting forth the effort  to obtain that degree in a field of study that you want to be a part of to make a difference in this world. Law enforcement or law practice is an interest and probably the field that I am going to pursue. This may include police positions such as investigator or even intelligence  officer.
Lifetime achievements for me would to make the country safer. I would like to know that I had something to do with stopping a world or national disasters. I want to know that I made a difference in keeping the world a safer place.
These were the goals of my life, and will try to reach them. I will give it my best to reach those goals. I will improve my skills along the way, and learn new technics. Life will get harder but you just have to get through it.
